Spring is coming
And I'll be here
Waiting to greet you
It's my 14th year!

Hello,

It's time to think gardening! I will host a plant swap again on May 14, 2011. This is Sister Saturday for Waconia. Do you have extra starts of your perennials, or bulbs like cannas, dahlia, gladiolus, calla lilies? Bring them to sell or swap that day!

Bring your own table, chair and items to sell or swap. Set up about 8:30 am or so and sell until 1 or 2 pm, or as long as you can. I do not charge you for the space or anything. It's a way for you to move some of your plants and meet other gardeners too. I know you will be great and will "Sell the Sizzle"!

There will be a Master Gardener here from 10 am to 12 noon. A junk market is in the works. There will be a tea sampling, a rhubarb dessert demonstration and you can stroll the grounds. There is not a lot to see yet but fun to get the feel for what is done on this farm. I will have my fern peonies for sale at the Plant Sale and Swap on May 14th.

I will be in a Twin Cities foodie magazine this spring, Edible Twin Cities. I had a photo shoot last week. Hope I look good, had my hair done to impress you.

Reminder, I have eggs available most of the time now. Call ahead to make sure

Cherry Bars

Part 1 - Mix
1 1/2 cups flour
2 tablespoons powdered sugar
1/2 cup butter

Pat 2/3 of mix in 8 x 10 buttered glass pan, saving 1/3 of the mix to sprinkle on top.

Part 2 - Mix
2 eggs well beaten
1 cup sugar
1 small jar maraschino cherries
1/2 cup coconut
1 1/2 tablespoons cherry juice
1 teaspoon vanilla

Pour mixture over first part. Sprinkle remaining 1/3 of flour mixture on top.

Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

This recipe is from the kitchen of Marlene Ortlop, New Germany, MN. I like to make something with cherries in February for Washington's birthday. But you can make this even if it's not February! Enjoy!
