Orange are the pumpkins
Red is the shack
The broom corn is ready
And I'd love to have you back!

Hello,

The Apple Shack will be ready for the weekend! This past week Sparky got the 'juice' to the cooler working and an old store counter found a new home. I used this antique counter at the Country Store and at the Red Rooster antique shop. Can't believe I forgot about it! The shed itself has great memories for me and now putting the old store counter in there, Wow! It's so exciting to have the Apple Shack! I love a new challenge! Click the links to see the Apple Shack progress: Had the shed brought from the Country Store, Made minor repairs, then painted it red, and installed a new entrance door, My antique Lloyd cooler goes in.

I sell apples by the pound, not the bag. So you can buy just one apple or any amount you would like. It's a great way to buy apples. And you can mix the varieties. They are all Minnesota Grown and excellent quality and flavor. I will also have seconds available for pies, sauces, apple butter or eating.

Come and see me at the Apple Shack for . . .

Garden Hints

It's time now to split your peony plants, except for fern peonies, that is. I should have reminded you to split fern peonies in August, it's too late now!

For other peonies you can dig the whole plant now if you want to move it. Or divide sprouts into 3-5 pink eyes each.

Dig hole, the eyes need to be 2 finger widths below the top of the hole. Lay a stick on the ground across the hole. Put 2 fingers beneath it, the eyes can touch, fill hole with soil and water.

Daylilies can be split now also. Just dig and cut the roots into pieces. Replant roots same depth.

Almost all perennials can be moved now.

Garlic can be planted in September. Cover with hay. Harvest garlic in July. Needs to dry 3-8 weeks.

When is winter squash (acorn, butternut, buttercup) ready to pick? If your thumbnail does not dent the shell its ready to pick.
