The onions ore grilling
And the corn is a roasting
The chicken is frying
So eat local and I'll keep smiling!

Hello,

The self-guided tours of my flower gardens At the Farm are done for this year. The heavy rain this past week took its toll and the gardens just are not showy any longer. Thanks to all of you who toured them and made it such a success. It was so fun to have all of you who came. I'd appreciate any feedback for next year. Gardeners, like farmers, are always looking forward to next year!

Gardening Update!

The season has been lush. Almost too much rain. It's interesting to farm. Every year is different and a challenge!

Be sure to pull your onions now. With all the rain they will start to re-grow. If that happens they will not store well. Spread them out to dry in the garage. (see photo of mine drying in my lath house at right) When they are dry you can cut the tops off and store the onions in a paper bag or box.

Potatoes can be dug if the tops are brown. They also will re-grow if left too long in the ground. Dry them in the garage. You should cover potatoes while they are drying. When they are dry rub off the soil. I do not wash my potatoes before I store them. Store in paper bags or covered boxes to keep the light off them.

Carrots and beets can be left in the ground until you are ready to use them.

The dill this year was a disaster! Don't know if it was too much rain, too hot or just plain ornery! I had a failure! But the pickling cucumbers were a winner! Had too many to keep up with for a while.

The peppers are having a fabulous season. They are large, have great flavor and are very plentiful! Kohlrabi and lettuce is done for the season. New planting of green beans is coming on. Tomatoes are fine. With all this rain they may crack alot.

Enjoy!
