MY NEW MISSION FOR 2009 . . .

PRIDE AND GLORY GARDEN PROJECT

This season I will give vegetable garden seeds, seed potatoes, onion sets, and vegetable plants to anyone unemployed so you can grow some of your own food. There is no charge to you.

I'M CALLING THIS MY PRIDE AND GLORY GARDEN PROJECT

  • If you are unemployed and want to learn to garden, I'm excited to teach you!
  • If you are unemployed and already know how to garden I will just give you the products to plant on your own.

Learning again to grow our own food is kind of like the victory gardens that were grown during World War II. It is an opportunity to experience the pride of accomplishment as well as the wonderful flavor of fresh food grown ourselves.

I used to sell bulk garden seeds when I had the Country Store and I think it is time to return to this. I really like selling this type of seed potatoes, onion sets and vegetable seeds because I can help you get the very best variety and you will be have excellent results.

You can do a deck garden, raised beds, or in the ground planting.

If you are just starting to garden it is wise to start small so you can take care of it.

In April I will be ready to help you with the vegetable seeds. Cilantro should be grown by seed because you need to plant it at different times.

Later I will have tomato, pepper, herbs, kohlrabi, cucumber, muskmelon, eggplant, basil plants.

PRIDE IN GROWING AND GLORY TO GOD FOR ALL THINGS.

Remember, I will also have seeds and plants for sale as well as to give to the unemployed.

Gardening Tips - Lets Get Started!

If you are going to start seeds in the house you need a product called Seed Start. I do not have this for sale but any good garden store should carry it. Soil is too heavy to use to start seeds and your plants will damp off. They will die.

It's too late to start peppers, they need to be started in early Feb. You can start tomatoes by the 25th of March. Don't plant seeds too early or they will get too leggy and will not have the energy to grow when you set the plants out.

Things like pumpkins are best started in the garden and not indoors. Pumpkin seeds can be planted the last week in May to the first week in June.

Some flowers also can be started in the house in late March. Call me for advice on starting seeds. 952-442-4816

It's great to think of planting again. Look at the photo of the potatoes I grew! What a gift!
