Its planting time At the Farm! We have planted cold crops
(onions, peas, beets, carrots, lettuce, cabbage and potatoes). I have fresh rhubarb and brown organic eggs for sale. See the rhubarb torte recipe below!
Its still too early to set out your annual flowers.
Because the ground is still cold, the plants will go backwards first! Then they have to work harder to grow when the soil warms up. If you wait until the ground is warmer they just grow much better.
Did
you ever hear of Iceman Days (May 20, 21, 22)? The Germans in Carver County told me about this when I first came to the area. They said it could freeze, and does freeze, some years on these dates. This just
might be one of those years! Just a bit of local folk lore for those of you in Carver County.
Flower containers and hanging gardens are ready to enjoy now.
