Gardening Tips for May - Beautiful flowers start with good soil! Have your flower containers and hanging baskets been sort of ho-hum? Then try this each spring . . . dump all the old soil out of your containers and start over with new potting soil. Use a good quality potting soil made for containers, all soils are NOT created equal! Flower beds ho-hum too? Enrich the soil in your flower beds to encourage growth by adding bone meal when you work up the gound in the flower bed. You can also work 10-10-10 fertilizer into the flower bed before planting. Or sprinkle the 10-10-10 fertilizer on top of the soil after planting your annuals and work it down into the soil. And when planting your flowers, remember to loosen the roots in the root ball a little before you plant, so the roots can spread out and grow. Pansies can be planted now!
