Garden Gleanings for August!
                                                     It's news from my fields!

Tomatoes are doing a good job of ripening. The romas, cherry, heirloom and slicing tomatoes have excellent flavor this season. I do not have enough to sell by the 1/2 bushel yet but that comes on quick once they start to ripen.

The pickling cukes have started also. I have pickling cukes by the 1/2 bushel but you do need to order ahead. They are very clean since I grow them on hay. I take the field heat out of them right after picking, They are dunked in cold water and then refrigerated to keep their freshness.

I have dill, onions and garlic for your pickling needs. Be sure to use a good vinegar (like cider) for your pickles and DO NOT boil them!

My Minnesota Sweet Corn is EXCELLENT. It's the honey and cream variety.

Green and yellow beans also ready now to can or freeze. And the beet crop also is perfect for your pickles or canning.

Cabbage is ready for kraut. It too, is excellent this year. I think the cool spring was the ticket to greatness. I also grow Savoy Cabbage but its not ready yet.

Be sure to try some Cipollini Onions on the grill this season. Just cut in half the short way, brush on olive oil and grill the flat side first and then the round. About 3-4 minutes, each side.

ENJOY THE HARVEST . . . IT DOESN'T LAST LONG ENOUGH!
